Fireworks

Fireworks was yesterday and we had to go of course, since Chloe was all excited over it.  But since nobody said anything to meet up or not, we didn’t care to organize anything but to go on our own.  But of course, my dear g/f was looking for us in a panic mode when we were all ready to head out and i didn’t bring my cellphone of course.

Anyhow, we enjoyed the fireworks although PB sat to have his sandwich, such a spoil sport but Chloe had a lot of fun and of course, I was wondering the whole night if my g/f was alright.  Now why can’t people make arrangements earlier?

Tall & Skinny

When Chloe’s new doctor told her that she was at risk of being overweight – she was so paranoid she learned to read – how much calories every thing she picked up to eat.  Yes!  horrible isn’t it and we didn’t even teach her to do that, she just did it on her own.  But no she wasn’t overweight or anything near it – kids go thru’ growth spurts and we tried to explain to Chloe about it.  So if your family doctor tells you something along the same lines about your kid – please don’t get overly excited because they do grow up and the baby fats do go.

But of course, having said that, there are kids that really need to watch out like one of chloe’s friend but how can you tell a kid that she is overweight or obese right?  Nor am I gonna tell her parents because for all you know, she might have a health condition.  But as a parent, I’m sure you know your kid best, so if they are really in that category, do something now before it’s too late.

Father’s Day 2013

Well, it had been a pretty busy month for us thus far – with a friend leaving and helping a girlfriend thru’ a hard time and another friend visiting from Australia.  So I thought I should update a little and let you all know that we are doing great – and that it had just been a very busy month for all of us.

Father’s day came and went – this year we had a BBQ as well – because that was what the father-in-law had wanted although PB wasn’t too keen on it as BBQ doesn’t go well with his tummy.  But he ended up BBQing grouchily – hahhaha! because John and George wasn’t good at it.  So next year I’ll remember to invite Garth and Jerry instead – those are the uncles who loved BBQing.

Chloe is at the end of her school term and as usual, we are busy with a lot of school activities during this month, from school luncheons to field trip days but overall, she is doing well, although she came down with a cold a few weeks ago.  Her lil’ friend layla left for Ottawa – so she was devastated for abit.  But they can skype alot because Chloe has a mini-ipad and the girls can keep in touch that way.

The store is still doing great – we are still looking for a bigger place to buy or rent – but nothing is really available at the moment, so we will continue striving good at this location.  The backyward had been hydro-seeded and we are looking forward to a warm and long summer.  More later.

Private Swimming Class

So we’ve finally convinced Chloe to go back to swimming classes at the YMCA and this time, she is going for private lessons?  why?  not because we are rich or because she is privileged but because in her previous group class, she didn’t really get to learn a lot.  It was like the school lessons all over again – and she came out of the group lessons not learning how to swim *sigh*

So this time round, we’ve decided she is going for private lessons – so that she can get the one to one attention and the instructor can see how he can go about teaching her the way he deem fit.  Chloe had hoped for a girl swimming instructor  but she ended up with a boy – now hopefully she isn’t too distracted by the boy instructor and don’t learn anything.  You know she is at the age, where she is having crushes on the opposite sex even though she denies it – hahha! but she asked me if i thought her swimming instructor was handsome hahahha!!

Keeping Busy With Arts & Crafts

I’m constantly looking out for things to keep Chloe busy, like swimming, karate, art classes, music classes etc – unlike PB he is quite happy if she wasn’t doing anything.  It’s not that he doesn’t know that the kid needs to be kept occupied all the time else she complains that she is bored.  So I’m always on a look out for event to bring her like this Paper event held in town that I just found out a few days before it happened.  I made sure that we got up early and made sure she gets to get involved in it – and not just a browser.  So is it a man thing ?  or is it just my man thing?  *sigh*  sometimes i feel that I have to do so much planning on my own – and my only consolation is PB doesn’t say no to any of my plans.  Thank God !  else he sure kenna!

Bingo Night @ Chloe’s School

Bingo night at Chloe’s school is to raise more funds for the school and like every year we try to attend it – even if PB wasn’t free and had to work.  This year I’m lucky because my sister from another mother is living in town and she fetched us there.  We didn’t get to win anything but we had fun – but Chloe was disappointed but it’s good for her to learn that she doesn’t get to win everything every time.

There were lots of kids and parents who came to support the Bingo night and I’m happy we are part of it.

Electronic Games & Kids

I’m glad that my kid is not into electronic games that much that she won’t do anything else.  Chloe loves the outdoors, drawing, sewing, reading, watching tv but every now and then she wants her electronic games too.  From Skylanders to Lego Batman and Lego StarWars, so the  rechargeable batteries aa  is a necessity in our home.

I don’t know about other parents but I prefer Chloe to be outdoors playing or doing something creative, I’m not too happy when she is indoors watching tv all the time or playing games on the tv with PB.  But when you have a store full of games for you to pick from and a gamer dad, I feel that I am not doing a bad job with Chloe.

So how much electronic game time is good for your kids?  I say depending on your kids, for me no more than 30 mins a day – but most times, Chloe doesn’t play her electronic games except to keep her dad company or to do something with daddy on weekends.

She Understands More Than We Think

Chloe is 9 years old and although she can be quite naughty at times, I’ll have to say that she can understand more than we care to give her credit for.  I told her I had lots of work to do this week and that she had to let me work and she tried very hard not to disturb me at work or at home, although at times, she still wants to play with me but that is understandable – she is afterall, still a kid.

And when my g/f was in a bad place, she knew enough not to let her pay for meals when we go out for food together, and she also knows how to comfort my g/f and called her ex – DS – for  Deep Shit because she cannot say “deep shit” per se as it is a bad word to her.  Yes, at 9 yrs old she seems a lot older at times and understand more than a lot of kids her age but I guess that’s because we tell her more than we should too.  We try not to keep secrets from her – that way when mummy needs to comfort an Auntie or help an Uncle she understands.

Education In The West

I don’t know about United States but here in Canada I realized that kids do learn a lot more than we did when I was Chloe’s age.  When I was in school, we were told to memorize and to do formulas without really understanding the basics or having fun at it.  Chloe loves school because she is given a chance to be creative and explore where else back home, we just had to keep up.  There was really no fun in school for me at all during Chloe age, it was do or get caned.  So I’m really pleased that Chloe is learning with fun, she was able to come back and tell us stuff that even I don’t know – like Canada’s history – for example – Africville.  Yes! silly me ! i thought she was talking about the Smurfs when she asked me if I knew about Africville – since I said mummy knows everything – so she caught me there – mannnn!!!  these days kids are so smart !

While friends told me that they return home and have no regrets, I think I’m staying in Canada because I really don’t think Chloe would learn with so much fun if she was back home in Singapore.

March Break

Well, March break is almost over and we survived it – wished my leg didn’t hurt so bad when we were up in Halifax though – that suck big time and to think that I didn’t think of taking some muscle relaxant was really stupid of me.  I think it was probably trying to accommodate everyone, from PB, Chloe and my g/f who went with us that took a toil on me. But Chloe had a good time although I wished I had more time with her, the next time we go up to the city, it has to be only 3 of us and no one else – so that I don’t have to try and please everyone or worry about PB being bored or anything of that sort.  Don’t get me wrong, we loved to have our g/f with us but I just worry too much about everyone and trying to make everyone feel comfy that I had forgotten about myself, so yes, the next time, it has to be only us 3.
