Even as an adult now, we all still have the little child in us and comic books are never too young for all of us. Tell me who haven’t had their favorite comic books.. that they stash away to share with their friends when they were in high school or even as young as grade school.
Well, if you are into comic books, make sure you pick up a copy of Rostam Comic Book, it is meant for all ages and an adaptation of tales from Shahnameh into the American Comic book format. It is all about Persian Mythological Heroes brought to life in a graphic novel. The comic is a combined effort by childhood friends, Bruce, Jamie and Cameron and the brainchild came after the project on anti-smoking targettng Asian American teenage who smokes, it became so successful that more than a million issues were printed and distributed. And because of that project, they were inspired to express the action adventure stories they had grown up with and turn it into an art form.
Rostam is the main warrior hero in this comic book, keeping in mind with most comic book tradition, blending rich folklore and tradition into this comic, the first adaptation of Shahnameh was launched. A trilogy was put together after many years of hardwork in research, translation and adaptation. A deeper message and/or fable of wisdom and advice overlays the main story was achieved. A definitely “must owned” comic for in July, Rostam comic book was added to the Asian Art Museum store in San Francisco, California. I’ll have to say it’s a cool comic book to be on display there till mid – September.
