I’m pleased to report that Chloe is having a lot of success with her teachers from last year and this year. Even the school secretary is way nicer than her previous school – she is always smiling to us – and always gets chloe for us when we need to see her during lunch time. It really makes a world of difference that Chloe like her teachers a lot. Plus her teachers are very encouraging and always listen when Chloe has trouble with some kids. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that Chloe would continue to have good teachers for the rest of her years in this school.
Reading Changes
We can see lots of changes in Chloe this year – this year – she is reading a lot more and recognizing a lot more words than we thought she did. When we go to the mall – she would try to read stuff that are on the sign – and is even able to read greeting cards. Very impressive indeed! the teachers from last year and this year – had done a great job with Chloe i’ll have to say. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed – so far she is enjoying school very much and don’t want to miss school at all.
The Fall Brings Lots Of Rain
The fall brings lots of rain here and rain boots is a must for everyone – especially the kids. Lucky for me – Chloe loves wearing her rain boots – in fact if she could wear it everyday – she would. It was wet this morning from yesterday’s rain – but because today is photo day for school – she was really torn in between wearing a pretty shoe and her rain boots. As you can see – she chose her rain boots instead – the wind was also cold this morning – so she had her gloves on as well. I guess rain is better than snow – I’ll take the rain anytime – just no hurricane please.
First Day In Grade One
So we survived the first day back at school yesterday – in fact even better than I thought. This morning – Chloe said she didn’t want to bring her teddy to school no more – and no more sippy cups too. Woohoo!!! my girl is growing up eh? All the fuss about the sippy cup from her old school/teacher – and like we said – when she is ready – she will say no to the sippy cup – but nope – the ex-teacher – just won’t let go. Thankfully, her new teacher from last year – didn’t say a thing about it.
This year – Mrs Boudreau is also in her class and a new teacher – but Chloe already said she liked her new teacher even before school started – apparently – she already met her new teacher last year and thought that she was nice. Yesterday morning – when we met up with the new teacher – she was really nice – so we are quite happy about it. I foresee Chloe going some changes but I am confident she will do well this year – keeping our fingers crossed.
School Starts
School starts in a few days – and even though we had gotten Chloe’s stationary and shoes a month ago – we haven’t gotten down to putting her names and initial down. So today – being Sunday – we decided it was time to do it – we are procrastinators as you can see – hahaha!! but being so busy with the store and our online work – you all can’t understand and excuse us of being slack. Chloe’s stationary came up to about $45 – plus we have to give the school another $6 upon returning to school for a diary/calendar. We are kinda excited as well as chloe – who is looking forward to school this year – we hope that this year would be just as good as she did with Mrs Bower and Mrs Boudreau. Both teachers are great – they really took care of chloe and were understanding towards my “helicopter” ways. But like last year – I’m gonna concentrate on Chloe alone and her class and her teachers – the rest – I’m gonna take a back seat.
Getting Ready For School
I know – it’s only the 12th and it’s but a month away – but i guess the “asian” mentality – although having been in Canada for 10 yrs now – i still very much believe in getting everything ready before it’s too late and we might miss out on something. So a few weeks ago – PB and I set out to Walmart with Chloe and picked up all her school stuff – from pencils to files and even new shoes. So that’s all done – i’m now debating on whether i should order some fancy labels for her. I know it is not necessary – afterall, who label their pencils right? not like she is in an elite school and a marker which cost less than $1 was good enough to label her book bags and shoes for the last few years.
But that’s not all we are doing to get Chloe ready for school – we are also preparing her for next year’s syllabus – like addition and subtraction and going thru’ a list of words we got from the school website to familiarize her with them. The good thing is she said she misses her school routine – so emotionally we are all set? One can only hope eh! crossed our fingers and crossed our toes! so are you and your kids ready for school yet? yes, i too have to prepare myself for school and not be over-zealous and do the unnecessary (if you know what i mean).
My Kid Loves To Read
My kid loves to read – i even have a picture of her in the toilet reading a magazine – muahah!! I am guessing – she loves to read because she sees us reading a lot – they say the apple don’t fall far from the tree eh. We get all her books from school, or the local book store here but PB uses Amazon books to get his special books that you have to order – like the Forgotten Realms & the Wheel of Time series (we can find it in this small town).
The school encourages us to read to her and we do it every night before she sleeps – she loves for us to read to her – but she refuses to read on her own. So ever since she started “real” school, we were able to acquire some books that was in her level – and she is now able to read simple books. And though she doesn’t read too much yet – she loves buying books and we never refused when it comes to books. My grandfather used to say that books should be our best friend – and at that time – i thought it was so corny – but now i can fully understand why my grandfather preaches it constantly. What about you? does your kids love to read? where do you get good and cheap books ? pray tell.
First Year In School
So Chloe’s first year in school is finally over – school ended! woohoo!! and she passed and going to Grade 1 next year. Her year in school did not go as smoothly as we’ve hope that it would be – but despite all the boo-ha – i am very proud of our lil’ brat who loves peanut butter cookie that she made with her Grammie.
Her teacher said she was a hard worker and aimed to please and that she has improved tremendously. It is definitely her old school’s lost for not taking better care of Chloe and allowing her to get traumatized by the other boy for so long. We are still watchful even in her new school – but i really think she does like her new school a lot better. At least they donch have parents smoking outside the school while bringing their kids to school or picking them up.
Honesty In My Child
So we were in school this morning to catch Chloe’s home room teacher to see how, we can meet up with them for their walk about trip and we met the Teacher’s assistant as well. She quickly thanked us for the cake that we had bought for her – last week, in which i had pointed out that it was Chloe’s idea. Well, guess what the Chloe said ” No .. it wasn’t me – i didn’t even know!!” oh mannn!!! hahahahha!!! but it’s the truth – it was an impromptu thing we did – because we had given her home room teacher a potted plant. Chloe is so honest, I better not show her our business credit reports when she is older, else she might just blurt out everything to all the customers at our store. Muahahah!! now that would be embarrassing.
Taking A Back Seat With This Town
Many moons ago, I would have gone on a rant when anything happens in this town – but when my Chloe wasn’t taken care of when she was in the other school – when a little boy was bothering her for months – that was when I decided I will take a back seat where this town is concerned. When you lived in this town – you won’t even need apidexin to loss weight – because this town just aggravates the hell outta you. The decisions that the town councils and the MLAs – even the Premier makes just makes no sense to me.
A few weeks ago, the school board announced some changes with the school system – normally i would also pitch in my say by now – but these days – i just take care of my own – and do well for my kid and my family. Why? like i anticipated – no matter how much picketing you might want to go on – or open a Facebook page to protest – guess what – they will still stick to their decisions – like the rest of the town – when they decide on something to their benefit – and won’t be defeated.
The people who runs this town – to me are just doing things to save their faces – they won’t back down because they all have their own agenda – there is no the greater good here. It is for each his own here – so no – from that day after March Spring break – i told myself – to me my own too.
