First Day – Grade 6

IMG_3091

My dorky little girl is going on to Grade 6 , she is almost 12 years old now, well, a few more months, but it is going to come around soon than I want.  She looks so dorky here don’t she?   Yes, she is growing up , where has the time gone?  She is mostly a good kid but going thru’ pre-teen syndrome  I’m guessing.  She is still fussy with her food, which makes me think that I should have made her eat whatever , like sandwiches and cheese and broccoli , but she is eating quite healthy and not drinking pop and eating sugar like other kids that I know of.

Mostly plays well with other kids and still worries too much about stuff that are not important , like a broken toy and not wanting her friends to go thru’ her toys when they are here on play dates.  I don’t think she is selfish but she loves her stuff so much, she don’t want them destroyed and even though we tell her that it can be replaced, she didn’t want that , because what she already had has sentimental value.  *slap forehead*.   We cannot stress enough to her about not sweating the small stuff but at 11 years of age, it can be quite hard to understand that these are only small stuff.

This year will be her last year in her primary school, that is what we call it back home and for those who donch like the way I call it , that’s your problem.  Anyhow, I know she has a very good teacher like last year and I hope she enjoys her last year and I know that her school is going to do their best to teach her all they can and more and also enjoy her school syllabus as well.   Thus far, her primary school is nothing but the best for Chloe, she has enjoyed every year and looked forward to going back to school after summer.  I’m very grateful for the wonderful experiences she has had thus far with this primary school.

Results For Term 2 Grade 5

007

Chloe said she tried her best, so I didn’t turn into monster mom this time – hahhaha!  while the rest of the extended family gave her a pat on her shoulder, I tell them not to spoil  her by praising her, she definitely has room for improvement.

008

Her teachers are awesome and her syllabus are easy, so she should have done much better this term.  Don’t get me wrong, I know she has done well, but definitely, definitely could do better if she puts in more effort and more practices at home.

009

I asked her before the parents and teachers meet what did she think her teacher would say about her, and she replied that they would say she is awesome ! hahahha!!  that kid is funny to the max!

I’m very happy that she is very happy in school and with her teachers and peers but I would definitely want to see more effort on Chloe’s end.

Appreciating The TEachers

So Chloe had handed me a list of teachers and TAs and staff from school she wanted to thank.   And if you know my Chloe, you will know how much she enjoys school except for the first year with her french teacher and the little boy who keeps touching her bum from another school.  Subsequently, we never had any trouble and she enjoys all her teachers very much.  Chloe is always grateful for all the attention that her teachers gives her and those given to her by Mr Purdy her principal as well as Mrs Rose, who takes care of her lunch everyday.

She listed all the reasons why she wanted to thank everyone on her list and she even reminded me that she wants to thank Mrs OB because she is her favorite teacher.  She loves her current teachers as well, Mrs Eyre and Mrs Bridgeo and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers.   She loves her TAs Ms Holly and Ms Patsy because of them, she is able to concentrate in class while they take care of other students. This year, she also has a french teacher – Mdm Rhyno and Chloe just adores her  – Chloe said that because of Mdm Rhyno , she loves her french.

I am so grateful for all of Chloe’s teachers, past and present and of course the librarian and Mrs Rose, who is a friendly face to Chloe when she is in school.  They all make attending school so much fun for Chloe and she loves school so much, you can never find another happier kid than Chloe when it comes to going to school.

Every year we try to do a little something for all these special educators, I know we don’t do enough to show how much we appreciate them but we try every year.   From the bottom of our heart, we want to thank them for helping Chloe grow into a wonderful kid, because of them, Chloe will be a fine young lady in the future.

School Interrupted

cats

Yes, school had been interrupted since last week Thursday.  There was an oil leak in Chloe’s school and we were called to pick Chloe up from school earlier than usual.  Subsequently, we found out that school had to be closed due to health reasons and while some kids may love it, Chloe is so bored, I don’t even know what else I can do with her today.

We’ve gone thru’ her geometry test, we’ve done extra work with her piano recital, her grampie bought her a skate board, she had been doing bracelet with her rainbow loomz for her bracelet business.  Done paintings for her painting business, helped clean the store, helped clean the house, played with her cousins.  Gone for a haircut, been to the cottage, yes, just about everything.

We are also worried if she will catch up with the rest of her school work intended for this year since there isn’t any plan for summer school for the missing time.  But I’m sure the school and her teachers are just as worried and will do their best to help make up for the lost time.  But truth be told, I don’t mind if Chloe had extended classes during the summer, whatever it takes to make sure she gets to cover her entire school curriculum without having to rush thru’ it because of time constraint.

But I’m pretty sure that her teachers know what they are doing and the part of me being the helicopter mom is creeping up.  hhahahha!!

8 As 4 Bs

We just got back from Parents and Teacher’s meet yesterday and as usual, it was a very successful one.  We really love chloe’s home room teachers this year.  So many positive things to say about Chloe and very encouraging to us as parents.  We cannot thank them enough – and wished we could do more for the teachers.

Yes, Chloe scored 8 As and 4 Bs, but I still feel that she can apply herself more for I know she can definitely do better.  Just like her piano lessons and practices, I know she can do a lot better if she apply  herself a little more.  So during the school holidays, she has to continue doing revision work with us and practice her piano as well.

Don’t get me wrong, we are very proud of her but we want her to work just a wee bit harder next term, so that she can understand each subject better and have a better foundation before going to junior high school.

Mrs Purdy Is Very Lucky

So apparently Chloe thinks that I’m not as lucky as Mrs Purdy (her principal’s wife) – why?  well, the other day she came home after her school’s assembly and said that Mr Purdy was so funny, telling them a joke during the assembly and that was when she thought Mrs Purdy is so lucky to have a funny husband.  hahahhaha!!!

Her dad being so grouchy all the time, I figured she must think I’m not so lucky hahhahaha!!  so I guess Chloe like men who are funny – ahhhh.. now we know – hahhhaa! the things kids say eh. The things kids observed and come to a deduction on their own only tells us how important it is to portray the right image to our kids.

So yes, her principal is doing a great job – that’s for sure, she has nothing but nice things to say about both Mr & Mrs Purdy!

On Snow Days

Unlike last year, on snow days, we didn’t ship Chloe out to painting classes, instead we do craft work at the store and painting and reading together.  We also did some science experiments with copper wires, magnets and batteries albeit not too successful hahah!  but you get the hint right?  yes, this year we’ve decided that besides her piano classes, karate, swimming and painting classes, we are going to be spending a lot of snow days with her.

The above is the gratitude jar that we spoke about a few weeks ago, that we were going to show gratitude for what we have and not what we don’t have. I foresee this year a more fruitful year with Chloe as we have settled into a routine both at work and home and since Chloe is doing French this year, we may look for a french tutor for her next year to help her advance in her French language.

PS :  We are also using our snow days to collect bottles for the school and packing up old clothes and shoes to ship out to the children in Afghan.

FundRaiser Winners

This year we didn’t raise as much as we did the previous years * hang my head in shame*.  We’ve collected a total of $364 only but I want to thank all of you who’ve helped and supported Chloe’s school fundraiser.   God bless you and yours richly!

Awesome Parents & Teachers Meet This Year

We just came back from Parents and Teachers meet with Chloe’s home room teachers for her 1st term in Grade 4.  I have to say that this parents and teachers meet was by far the most wonderful, we have had.  Don’t get me wrong, her previous years were good too but this year, Chloe has met the expectations of her teachers as well as our own.

Like I’ve mentioned before, her teachers had always been so helpful and they try their very best to help with anything that Chloe may need or needs help with.  This year Chloe has 2 home room teachers and both had good report on Chloe’s progress and even though I had questions about some of Chloe’s marks, they explained quite clearly how Chloe’s results came about and that we need not worry about it.  Like every Asian parent, I have to say that I’m still a tiger mom inside, so an understanding of Chloe’s weaker subjects or stronger ones is a must for this mom – so that we can help her on her weaker subjects and improve on her stronger ones.

As mentioned to before, Chloe loves school and I’ve also noticed that this year, she isn’t running to us for help when she encounters problems as much as she used to – credit needs to go to her previous home room teacher who had encouraged that Chloe speak up for herself.  As we watch Chloe grow with her teachers year after year, we can see that she has definitely grown to love this school and all her teachers.  I’m happy about it because it’s so important that kids like their teachers and respect them and listens to them.  My hope is that Chloe continues to love school and learn to be a positive and honest person with integrity and never sweat the small stuff and in the meantime, study hard and play hard as well.

Chloe’s Annual School FundRaiser

Well, it is that time of the year again, Chloe’s school Christmas Fundraiser. This year, Chloe and I are hoping to raise more than we did last year ($861). Therefore, I’m asking for your generous donation – for the fundraiser. 1 ticket is for $2, 3 for $5 and $10 for 10 tickets. As usual, overseas winner will get a 25Ibs fresh lobster airflown to you by yours truly.

As for others, the 1st prize is for a Gift Card Tree Value at $1000, Second Prize is for a Gift Card Tree of $460 and 3rd Prize is for a 25Ibs fresh lobster. The draw date is December 16, 2013.

For those using paypal, please paypal to PB at kalamaf@gmail.com (he’s better with the money). Please no obligation everyone – but in the spirit of Christmas, I do ask anyone who feels like giving to give generously.

This year Chloe will not participate in the student who raise the most money award because she had already won 2 consecutive years. So we’ve talked about it and if she does raise the most money, she will step down and let the prize go to the next student.

I thank you all in advance for your kindness and generosity and God bless all of you abundantly.

PS :  Advertisers and Sponsors are encouraged to give generously!
