Immigration & Custom

 So I’ve recently met a couple who just came home from Alberta.  The guy is from town but the girl is from Asia and they recently got married and like any good Asian, I had to chat her up and make sure she knows that she isn’t alone in this foreign country.  Of course, for those who’ve never traveled out of the country and lived in another country, you won’t know how someone from so far away feels when they basically have no one but the spouse and his family and friends to count on.  Most times, Asian girls would have no trouble with her new family but there are girls from Asia who may encounter some sort of abuse and even loneliness , so it is nice to have a friendly face and someone to go to in case something does come up.

Most Asians would offer a hand and since I’ve been in the same situation , I find that it’s only kind to offer any kind of assistance or even share a bowl of soup from home with these new migrants.  Of course, not everyone would have their immigration status or papers all ready and proper.  My advise to anyone who are already on a work permit in Canada and is planning to stay in Canada, you should apply for permanent resident right away.  Don’t wait till your visas or work permit expires because immigration/custom here in Canada isn’t here to make things difficult for you.  If you are genuinely here to stay or have a real relationship, there is no reason why immigration would not allow you to stay.

As for custom/immigration , I’ve traveled so much and I’ve never encountered a mean immigration officer, I’ve been stopped by immigration before when I first came to Canada but once you’ve answered the few questions they have , they will let you go on your way.

Vancouver Lush

I was in Vancouver for work and had the opportunity to visit the Lush workshop there.  Very happy to network with other bloggers and vloggers , learned a lot and of course, Lush was so generous and lots of gifts we were sent home with.   Too tired tonite to write about my experience but it was an awesome trip. Thanks to my advertisers for flying me out on Business class.

I’ve Been Busy

Yes, I’ve been so busy doing a little traveling for work to Seattle lately and haven’t been online a lot.  But I only go for a few days and rush back because I don’t want to be away from Chloe too long.  Between vlogging and signing up for a book deal and of course writing all about migrating to Canada as a minority (asian) it had kept me so busy that I cannot be at the store all the time now.

Nevertheless, I’m enjoying every moment of this new experience and making a lot of connection with some advertisers as well as my communications people.  The only cons is that I have to be away from the family from time to time but I think most things are pretty much organized now, therefore, I can do my work from here and send them all my work over the internet.

Vlogging is so fun and it’s so rewarding.  Life cannot be better !  did we tell you that we bought another property for investment?  yup!  it’s been an exciting summer!

Upper Clements Park

The summer has gone by so fast this year, it’s crazy! and since we haven’t really done much for the kid, except for traveling for my work, thanks to Youtube for all the sponsorship, we decided that we should go to Upper Clements Park just for a day for her.   Chloe was so excited that she couldn’t sleep the night before and woke us up like several times during the night.

The kids had a really good time, poor me, I had to walk up a hill, and I told PB that he and Chloe must be trying to kill me to replace me for a younger version of me … hhahahaha!!!   We were there for like 5.5hrs and went to visit our cottage after that to cool off, so all in all, we spent the entire day out.  The kids were exhausted and slept all nite without waking up that nite.

PS:  I noticed that this year, Chloe would go on more rides than she did last year, so I’m hoping by next year, she will be more ready to do more things in Disney in Florida.

Vlogger Fair In Seattle

Yes, Vlogger Fair will be in Seattle, Washington again and this year, I’ve been invited to go to the fair by Youtube and my PR company is making arrangement for me to meet up with my advertisers and other potential marketers.  I’m very excited of course and can’t wait to be in Seattle, Washington for a few days.  I’m hoping that I can catch up with some friends in Seattle and for those who’ve not heard of Vlogger Fair, don’t sweat it.  I didn’t know about it till my PR company from USA asked me to start vlogging for a company in USA – and a USA online magazine.

I’ve been indeed blessed with all the opportunities given to me throughout my years as a blogger and now vlogging.  The food network that I worked have also been really good to me and although I may not be in Asia, I still get to travel around the West because of my work.  So when customers at the store tells me that they haven’t seen me at the store for a long time, it’s probably because of my mini – work trips that had kept me busy and away.

Vacation Time !

Chloe announced to her Aunt the other day that she was going to DisneyLand this summer but without her – a matter-of-factly way.  hahahaha!!!  yes, that’s my girl for you , so honest and so direct.  So she finally agree to go on the plane this summer and we are very excited about it of course! since we are planning to go home to Singapore like next year.  So a shorter flight first and then the long flight back to Asia next year – 28 hrs!!!

So yes, we are going to Disneyland or Disney World this summer! with the love of my life!  We are also going to meet up with my PR company there and maybe fit in some meetings while we are there.  SKII has invited me to their office and make up factory to look at some of their new stuff and I’m so stoked that they are going to make the hotel arrangement as well as the limousine for us to travel around while we are in the city.

We are planning to spend 5 days in Disneyland and then some work time for me while PB and Chloe explore the city on their own.  We do have a teacher/friend who is helping us out at the store while we are out on vacation and for the rest of the summer, we are going to enjoy our summer cottage.

Summer Vacation

This is our summer vacation spot this year as we found someone to help out in the store. And the person who is helping us out at the store is a friend from Halifax.  He teaches in Halifax and like the students will be having a summer vacation and since he has nothing to do during the summer, he said he will come help us out.

So I called my extended family and told them that we will be using their resort for the summer and they told us to come anytime.  We are so excited because the resort is absolutely free for us to use and they will stock up food and everything we need for our stay there.  Don’t you just love family!  About time, I get to use my new swimming costume ! woohoo!

Test Driving New Cars

We are having finding them to look for a new car.  Our Ford Focus still serves us well but it’s almost 10 years old now, so we decided that it’s time to get a new car.  Also when we travel, we need a bigger car now since we have Hyunjin with us on almost all our vacation for the last 1.5 yrs.  So PB said, we need a bigger car, so that it can fit all our luggage and stuff we need to buy.  I was very touched that PB is thinking of Hyunjin too when he is getting the new car because we don’t wanna leave Hyunjin in town while we go on vacation right?

Hopefully, we find the right car, at the right price and of course it has to be auto this time, so that either Hyunjin or I can drive it too.  So come back soon and check out which car we are buying.  Thus far, we have tried the Chevy Impalla and Toyota, we also like the Honda but the Mazda isn’t too bad either.

Shopping In The City

Up in the city meeting with our financial adviser from Citibank and of course had to do some shopping since we made some money in the our investment. Our hotels were paid for by Citibank and meals were also paid for by them, what more can we ask for right?  So yes, shop we did and also eat a lot of Japanese food and brought home a lot of groceries.  We were also given some Korean goodies by our financial adviser for he was in Korea for a vacation, so we shared some of those goodies with Chloe’s teachers.  We are very happy with our financial adviser from Citibank – he is absolutely awesome!

Visiting Japan

My cousin is a sushi chef, he was trained in Japan for 15 years before he went home to Singapore to open his own Japanese restaurant.  But now that all their kids are grown up, they’ve decided to move back to Japan and bought a small restaurant in the prefecture of Osaka.  They are all settled in already and the restaurant is also doing well  and since both of my nephews are pilots, they can fly anytime to Japan to visit them.  My cousin had invited us to visit them in Japan and he offered to  pay for all lodging as well as air-tickets for the entire family.    We are of course, very excited and planning for a visit soon – I do miss my cousin and his wife and if we are lucky, I might get to meet my nephews as well when we are in Japan.  And of course, I can’t wait to eat some real sushi !
