Loonie nears $1.04US

“The Canadian dollar hit a new 31-year high Friday, closing in on the $1.04 US level, as inflation figures came in higher than expected.”

And i’m gonna faint..!! unbelievable..!! here we are making US$ .. and the dollar keeps going down.. in comparison with Canadian dollars..!! Now we donch even dare move our US$ for whatever reason because we lose out so much .. in terms of bank charges as well. I wonder how is it affecting our Asian counterparts..? I am really hoping that we can be at least on par with the US$. All these fluctuation is really worrying me, because the economy in Canada is gonna be affected I am sure.

Mint Credit Card

Mint Credit Cards are so popular in UK that everyone who is a resident of UK and 18 above, will surely benefit from it. Offering you numerous options for your credit card needs, you do not need to look for different cards elsewhere.

But of course credit cards are meant for those using them responsibly and not those who do not want to pay their bills. So if you are looking for a no interest on balance transfer for 13 months, they are definitely where you should go. And the 0% on all purchases till May 2008 that they are offering is too good to refuse especially with Christmas just round the corner. With a credit card that offers so much, I know that I can not only have a good Christmas but also plan to pay everything before May 2008 in order not to be charged with interest like some of the other credit card companies would do. Credit cards are great to have but once again, use them wisely and responsibly and never get into debt for it.

Networking Group

A few days ago, while in the store, a member of the local business organization handed me a brochure for the networking group for the women in town. For the last 7 yrs year, apparently i was invisible . . and only visible when a donation is required. I was invited to join in their activities.. on a monthly basis with luncheons and all. All these are not unfamiliar to me.. for once upon a time.. i too was actively involved with the networking of professional women in Singapore.

Unfortunately, if you have been following my blog, you would know my view of this wonderful town .. and the ppl running this place. We’ve attended one business meeting in town a few years ago and it was a total waste of our time then. Nothing was being down and everything just died a natural death after calling in a consultant to brain-storm the already bad situation in town. And for me to join something like this networking group for women..?? with so many “great” stuff happening for this town in this instant.. i’ll have to pass..!

Dismal Tourism Season

A large hotel chain with two properties in Yarmouth is taking a wait and see approach when it comes to this years dismal tourism season. Rodd Hotels and Resorts operates the Rodd Grand Hotel and the Rodd Colony Harbour Inn. Company president and Chief Operating Officer John Cudmore admits this summer has affected the company’s bottom line.Cudmore says the company will work through the difficult perhaps by closing floors. Cudmore says he believes community involvement in working with marketing partners is the key to turning things around.

If big hotel chains are suffering here in Yarmouth, what can I say about small businesses like ours..?? Truly it is sad to see this town in this state, something went wrong.. along the way.. and if business are suffering the way we are.. how can the town still justify spending all those money .. for building new offices..?? Perhaps the town is churning in money from somewhere..?? but i donch know where it is coming in from or not..?? But as for us .. small business in this town.. and now even a large hotel chain is saying.. “WE ARE BLEEDING!” , so someone please tell me.. what can we all do..?? instead of just whining non-stop..??

The Loonie Flying High

One has to wonder if the loonie is gonna continue to fly high for awhile.. if it is a good or bad thing for us.

“The soaring Canadian dollar was one of the main topics of discussion during a local business luncheon last week that featured a presentation by James Westlake, group head of Canadian banking with RBC Financial Group.”

If you are buying properties in the U.S. of course it would be very good news for you. But if you are making US dollars and spending it in Canada, then like us, you will be concerned. In fact very concerned. The Canadian dollars is still going strong against the US dollars as far as I am concerned today, as to whether the US dollars will bounced back in 2008, no one even dares to predict or speculate. I don’t really know what to think of this money situation, but it sure doesn’t work in favour of us right now, not only because of our business and the tourist that we depend on in this town.. but other online businesses and businesses that we have in other part of the world.

Price Chopper Closing

“A Yarmouth grocery store is closing, putting 32 people out of work. Price Chopper on Starrs Road will close Oct 20th. The store is owned by grocery giant Sobeys. Jill Thomas-Myreck, Director of Communication with Sobey’s Atlantic, says the closure of Price Chopper was a business decision. She says they are working with employees to help them with possible employment opportunities including the Sobey’s store in Yarmouth.”

Sad..?? yup..! after all.. one wouldn’t think that grocery giant would close down one of it subsidiaries. I don’t shop very much in Price Chopper, coz’ i can’t seems to find the things i need there. The staff are not the friendliest… plus the meat is not very fresh. But the in-laws do shop there.. and it’s still sad to see such a long time business closing it’s door .. and at such short notice .. ?? 8 days from today.

Efficiency Is Surely Not Their Middle Name

A few days ago.. i wrote about how the cops said.. she wasn’t gonna charge us for possession of stolen goods, in a matter of factly way and was supposed to bring in a blue restitution form for us.. to get our money back for the goods we bought from these bunch of crooks right..?

Well .. she was in again.. and when PB asked her about the blue form.. she said… she would bring it down today..! But I’ve yet to hear PB say that she returned with the form after closing.

Efficient is definitely not their middle name i’ll have to say. Fortunately, for my boss in Spain.. he knows that my middle name is “Ms Efficient” .. and i donch disappoint.

Municipality Says Who Cares What You Think !

“The municipality of Yarmouth will proceed with plans to build a new administrative centre in Hebron–but not at all costs. Unofficial estimates for the structure have come in at about 4 million dollars. A price that has angered many ratepayers. During a regular meeting this morning councillors discussed concerns that were raised at last week’s public meeting. Most around the table agreed that proper office space is needed for staff and the public and that the muncipality’s current location, the courthouse, has outlived its usefulness. Warden Bryan Smith says on amalgamation, as far as he’s concerned, it’s a dead issue right now. Warden Smith says as far as the proposed new building is concerned, he says councillors and residents alike must keep an open mind.”

Possession Of Stolen Goods

I am rather cheesed off with the cops here.. why..?? because once again.. they are just GREAT..!! pun intended..! As you all know we trade and sell stuff at our store. And when someone comes in to sell something to us.. we try our utmost best to decide .. if they were stolen goods or not..! yes.. ppl do come in and sell us stolen goods.. and if for any reason .. we suspect something is not right.. we wouldn’t even wanna have anything to do with it. Like I said.. many a times before.. PB and I are pure cowards.. we never dare to do anything that is remotely against the law.

So here we are being the good and law-abiding citizens that we are.. as soon as someone comes in .. and say they have their stuff stolen.. we look thru’ our records.. and help as much as we can.. and even pull out video shots of those who were suspected of selling us stolen good… in our own time.. at our own expense.. thus losing out on the money we actually paid out for those “stolen” goods.
