After School Program

Chloe joined the after school program last week – after asking us if she could go a few weeks ago. We figured we could try it out and see if she liked it – because it is a good thing to keep her occupied – plus she would have someone to play with instead of being bored at the store with us. So we figured twice a week is good – and she loved it.

So what is the after school program about ? well – the teachers/program organizers keep them busy with activities and they play with other kids and they also provide a snack for them. But with Chloe – we bring our own snacks since she is fussy on what she wants to eat. But overall, she seems to be ok with the after school program and looked forward to it. So we will keep her there – till she said she doesn’t wanna go twice a week.

Her Dreams

My friend’s daughter – who just turned 18 found out that she is pregnant this week – yes – 18 is really young – and she had planned to do a nursing course at Dalhousie this year – but I guess she has to shelve that plan till after her baby. But who is going to take care of baby and her – she can’t just up and leave for Halifax to continue with her nursing course? or can she ? she asked me. I suggested maybe she can look into some online nursing degree , that way she can do it at home – and take care of baby as well as being near to her family.

I have seen my married friends to it – and if she was determined and has ambition – some motivation from her parents and support from her loved ones – having a baby at 18 is not as bleak. But having said all the above – my friend’s daughter – really need to get her act together and decide what she really wants for her baby and herself – for she needs to think for the future.

Snow Day

Snow Day means no school for Chloe – they canceled school as early as 6am this morning. No school doesn’t mean sleeping in for us – because Chloe wakes up as early – so no diff for us truth be told. And i love having her at the store with us – but very quickly she would find out that she would be bored too. By noon – she would be so bored – it would be the worst day in her life – as she would put it – hahahha!! a bit of drama queen would come out soon enough. Unlike in the city – there would be things for Chloe to do – or a library she can go to – or the discovery center – or museum – or even catch a good movie – but here – there is absolutely nothing for her to do – how sad eh. Oh well!

Winter Camp

Thank God for winter camp this year – because Chloe had 3 weeks of holidays from school – right before Christmas and then after. Chloe’s grammie was going to take her like twice a week but she got a cold right after Christmas and couldn’t take her. Also, this time round – Chloe had decided to stay for lunch instead of having her to bring her back and send her back to camp after lunch. So yes! thank God for Winter camp – and hopefully, they do it again next year – because it sure helped us a lot since we were so busy during Christmas time. On the last day of Winter camp – I gave the camp counselors some food vouchers from a local restaurant here to thank them for taking care of Chloe. Yes, we do have to pay for camp – but it’s always nice to show our appreciation in different ways.

A Magician For Chloe’s 7th Birthday

We brought in a magician from New Minas – Tim Valillee for Chloe’s birthday – courtesy of her “Kai Mah” Lina from Singapore. Since Chloe already celebrated her birthday at the movies – we decided to extend the goodwill to her school friends’ instead. Her teacher suggested doing for the lower primary and after a chat – thru’ email with Tim Valillee – he agreed to come down today – for a reasonable price.

Chloe had such a great time – and so did the kids at her school – that I honestly felt that the money spent – was definitely worth every penny. Tim Valillee did such a great job with the kids – that the school is going to bring him back for another occasion.

Sending Christmas Presents Home

For those who are away home – I’m sure you’ve already mailed out all the Christmas presents that you want to send home. If not – you better hurry – I don’t think you have very much time left. I had an easy time getting presents for my family back home – one of my brothers – love wrestling, and wrestlers – anything to do with wrestling – he is into big time. So I bought him some wresting t-shirts, wrestling tapes and wrestling caps and his favorite wrestler figurine. His was the easiest to get to be honest – don’t you just love the internet! On the same note – I’ve bought stuff online for Christmas – it makes life so much easier for me – what about you ? how did you make out with your Christmas shopping?

School Christmas Concert 2010

Chloe had her school concert a few days ago – if you are wondering why the faces are blocked out – it is because during the concert – we were reminded once again to be responsible netizen – and not put up pictures of other people’s kid – in case of “pedophiles”? So anyhow – while other parents would probably already have my kid’s picture on facebook – I’ve decided to block the other kids face – in case some parents don’t like it. This way – I don’t have to worry who sees this picture online and complain to the principal – after all, I have no time and energy to deal with anymore than necessary.

The concert went well – but Chloe didn’t sing as loud as she did – when she was home in the bath-tub, I asked her why – when she got home – she said she was shy *roll eyes*. We all know “shy” is not in her vocabulary ! Anyhow, this morning – we saw our local cop going into the school when we were dropping Chloe off – and he said – chloe was such a cutie! hahahha!! yes! a naughty cutie.

Report Card For Grade 1

I’m pleased to report that Chloe got her report card back today. All As 2 B s only 1 C – for reading. Her teacher wrote : Chloe has had a good first term. She is making progress at the early grade one level of reading and she does well with her word lists. She tries hard with her writing. Her work is always very neat and shows that she puts lots of effort into it. I need to encourage her to take risks when writing and to give the word a try. She often wants to have all her work done correctly. Chloe is always very pleasant and well behaved. She is kind and helpful to others.

Chloe has definitely come a long way – from when she first started at this school. Yes! i think the teachers play a very important part – Chloe is very lucky – her last year teacher and this year’s were great teachers – who have their own kids – therefore, wasn’t as panicky as the first one. Chloe tries really hard to read and recognize her words and we as parents of course hope she continues to excel in school.

She’s Too Cute Sometimes!

Sometimes she can be so good and cute – but other times – she can be so stubborn and so whiny! The other day after showing her the magazine I had done for her with Today Parents – she went back to school to tell her teacher that she was on a magazine cover – in which her teacher had replied – that they just might have to get her autograph after school. She was so tickled by it – she went around repeating how famous she was now. Yes! that’s my chloe for you – at almost 7 yrs old – she can be quite adamant at some stuff – but at other times – she is so easy to please. Never really asking for much except for time to play with us and read with us. I don’t know what I would have done without having her – it would be quite boring – like we were yesterday – when we went shopping without her – as she was with her grammie’s.

Books For Christmas

As much as I love to get toys for every kid in Chloe’s class for Christmas present – I strongly feel that books may be a better idea. Even chocolates are discouraged by the school these days – so here I am thinking – should we get books to donate to the entire class? or just give money to her teacher to get the books herself. It would be easier to give her the money to get the books – because she would then know what are suitable – and probably get a better deal. But I’m worried – that her teacher might not like the “money” thingie – so what do you all think? buy the books on my own and donate it to the class – or hand the money over and let the teacher pick the books she wants for the class?
