2010 Is Finally Here !

So the year 2009 has come to an end.. and 2010 is here finally. Should i say finally? well, kinda! although we did pretty good overall for the store, especially the last few months, after we put everything into perspective – I have to say personally – we were a bit stretched. But in 2010, we looked into email archiving services for my food blog because I have way too many fans/friends there.

Well, in 2009 – chloe started with a new preschool – right up to the summer holiday. She then went to summer camp both at the Y and the Youth Center but both didn’t work out well, because she wanted to bring her sitter a long – which defeats the purpose of helping her to be more independent. We did go for a short break last year to the city but it was way too short. Then Chloe started school in her new school – and we had to let her sitter go (we didn’t have enough hours for her). Follow by the kid bothering my Chloe and then she came down with a bladder infection – and the many meetings with the school to try and settle chloe in nicely.

During Chloe’s winter break we managed fabulously and even went for different events with family and friends. We also managed to get all our Christmas shopping done for Chloe’s friends and for our customers. Plus we are darn proud that we made a huge contribution to Chloe’s school. For this year, I’m hoping to take more care of our health and spend more time with Chloe. My new year’s resolution ? Bo Chup!

New Doctor For Chloe & I

In late November, our family doctor left his practice here for Toronto. I saw him the last time during his last week in town and he was upset that I haven’t gone for my blood test and saw him sooner – so her refused to apply for subsidy for my diabetic medication. He said i was not serious about my health ! I didn’t wanna be rude – because the truth was – i didn’t wanna see him nor his secretary too much unless absolutely necessary. Not only is he blunt – he had bad bedside manners. He was not good with Chloe and didn’t say the appropriate thing to a kid at all – especially one that he saw only when she wasn’t feeling good. I guess it was his way of telling me off – that i didn’t kowtow to him .. while he was around..??

Anyhow, we didn’t think we would be getting a new family doctor so soon – but we did – today the clinic from around here called and took Chloe and I in immediately. You see – i was smart – even though his “awesome” secretary told us that we cannot call and register our names in on other clinics before he left his practice – i still went ahead and left name everywhere – as soon as we found out that he was leaving.

I don’t know if the new doctor will be any better but having a doctor is better than not having one eh..?? and with this new doctor, i am gonna try to stay as professional as possible – and not even acknowledge him in public. Because our ex doctor – can’t even show any compassion of any kind and his “awesome” secretary was so plastic – even my old toy doll beats her in facial expression.

Bladder Infection

We had been really busy for the whole week – not only with birthday parties.. but Chloe had gotten sick from a bladder infection .. and a cold. Luckily, it was all within a week and she is all better today.. but we had kept her away from others.. since we didn’t want anyone to catch her cold. But nope.. she doesn’t have H1N1 – so don’t go spreading rumors now.. hahhahaha!!! it was just a common cold.

But my purpose of writing this is to let parents with small kids like mine know that if your kid complains that her peepee is burning .. when she pees.. do not wait.. but go straight to the doctor.. or in our case emergency room. We had waited.. for a day.. because she had complained about this before.. and it just went away the last time. But to see our family doctor .. who was leaving on that week .. wasn’t the most ideal situation .. but he did prescribed anti-biotics after a urine test.. and she felt better only the next day.

Had we not waited.. she wouldn’t have to wait for 3 days before getting the anti-biotic, she was in so much pain – it was horrid. Therefore, parents, if your kid has a burning sensation or itches.. go to the doctor like NOW!

Doctor Situation

We’ve always had a doctor situation here in our town. Doctors come and go.. when they sorta finished their contract here.. and they move to greener pasture. But how to blame them right..?? afterall, what is there here.. for them..??

A check with other clinics in town .. that we had put our name in for waiting list today.. didn’t looked good at all. Looks like other doctors were leaving too. Like i said.. i don’t blame them .. but did they really have to do it all at the same time..?? the 1000s of ppl here left without a family doctor!!! Darn these doctors.. and you think they are supposed to be serving the ppl for a greater cause. Oh well..!! so the emergency room again .. we have to go.. and with the H1N1 situation.. one donch even know what to think. I just hope that our next doctor don’t turned out to be insensitive and the secretary isn’t the same either – now that would sux big time. But in the meantime, i need to stay positive.. and look forward to a better doctor.

PS : PB has an appt with his family doctor in the next few days.. and i had asked him to go beg his family doctor to take Chloe in .. hahhaha!!! like go on his knees if he needs to.

All About The Cold

People often wonder how we stand the cold here in Canada.. especially someone like myself, who comes from a place where it is sunny 365 days a year.. or rather .. we say .. we don’t have any season, it’s summer every day.. and every season. Well, we do get the rain.. and the storms.. but they don’t really last too long, it’s usually very humid and dry where i come from. The place i come from is an island but a city and a country, very modern but no place for a motorhome nor motorhome towing services. But everything is as high tech as it can get. Don’t believe me..?? just google – Singapore and you will know where i come from.

Although, we come from a very advanced country, our upbringing is very much backwards, because my forefathers and parents are very traditional people. The believed in a lot of superstitions and the 3rd kind.. if you know what i mean. And some of the things that may not sound logical to the “ang mohs” .. we kinda grew used to it.. and practiced it even without really, really believing in it. Better safe than sorry..??

Like the cold weather for example, my mom used to make us dressed really warm coz’ she said.. else you are gonna get sick. But truth be told, you and i know that one gets a cold from virus in the air. But having said that.. when one is cold as compared to the other warm person, the colder person is more susceptible to getting sick quicker as study had shown. Even though I myself know that not keeping warm isn’t the real reason .. for getting sick, i still used it on Chloe and tell her strictly, ” you wanna get sick is it..?? quickly put on your scarf and keep your neck warm!” so you see .. even though we said.. we would never be like our mom.. we are like mom.. muahhaha!!! but yes.. one don’t get a cold .. if you don’t keep warm.

Vitamin D – For Your Kids

Photobucket

So i’ve slowed down on my writing recently – due to unforeseen circumstances – but that’s alright coz’ i can do more stuff with Chloe and look for pet beds for my best g/f from home. You see buying it back home is pretty ex and they probably don’t have the same stuff.. so i am buying them for her here.. and then bringing it home with me.. next year.. when i go home for a visit. Anyhow, i also have more time to do more catch up on my reading .. and plan for more activities for Chloe, so the unforeseen event turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I’ve always believed in making the best outta any situation .. and staying positive at all cost is my motto, afterall, Chloe is my only daughter.. and i need to do what is best for her.. and the rest are secondary right..?

So i read that the Vitamin D can do a lifetime of health benefits for our kids..?? Chloe is already taking a vitamin E supplement because she doesn’t take a lot of vegies. So what does Vitamin D do..?? and how much do they need to build strong bones and help prevent serious health problems in the future..?? It looks like the vitamin D can deliver a wide range of benefits. It is said that vitamin D plays a role in the prevention of seious chronic illnesses .. such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes.. and multiple scleriosis, cancer, heart disease and mental health problems like depression .. and schizophrenia. And since i have diabetes.. and rumor has it.. that it will run in the family.. i have no choice.. but to keep abreast on stuff like that right..?? So yes..! i’m heading out to the pharmacy .. and getting some for Chloe. But i’m gonna check with the pharmacist and see how much a kid can take.. becuase i read that one shouldn’t take more than 1,000IU of it a day – plus don’t forget to tell the pharmacist what you kid’s diet is already.. this will help determine how much your kid is able to take. Overdosing your kid with vitamin D is not advisable .. because it can make your kid feel nausea and long period of overdosing can lead to kidney stones and damage to the heart, lungs and blood vessels.

Flu Shots & HN1N Shots

Photobucket

So the flu shots are supposedly to be here soon .. and with the HN1N thing going around, we too wonder if we should take the needle, for those in the US, i think they are covered by short term health insurance NC. But of course, there are so many speculation and theory .. and so much to read online, you’ve gotta wonder right ..?? to take or not to take. With the babysitter having mono and stuff going around, it’s a good thing – the brat didn’t catch mono from her. Luckily, I had also curb and forbid Chloe to kiss the babysitter for the longest time.. actually since she started school. But she knows better not to kiss anyone on the lips.. yes – she sometimes does try with the babysitter.. moreso, to defy us.. and to irritate her. So we thank our lucky star – that she didn’t catch mono from the babysitter – when we heard 3 weeks ago, she caught it.

Which brings us back to – should we take the flu needle or the HN1N needle..?? so a call to the public nurse told us that she didn’t have as much info as she wants to yet – since the vaccine has not arrived. She feels that even if we did get HN1N .. she didn’t think that it would render life – threatening to be admitted to the hospital. But since PB has asthma, he will be eligible for it.. and so will the entire family. She wants us to check back in a week about the vaccine. As for the babysitter having mono, we don’t know where she might have caught it .. and even though she is out of the contagious stage, a check with our family doctor – he had said that she was gonna be quite tired for now, therefore, we had told the babysitter not to come in .. till later, in order not to stress her out or to strain her immune system – because chloe can be quite handful too at times. For those who have taken the flu shots or the HN1N vaccine, please let me know how it went.

One Month’s Celebration

Photobucket

We were invited by the Zhu’s for their son’s one month celebration tonite. We left at 7.30pm from the store.. and already there were a few ppl there. The Zhu’s are very popular ppl eh.. 🙂 and we are indeed blessed to have them as friends. Jasmine on the far left.. is another friend’s daughter – she is definitely getting prettier each time i see her. It’s too bad we don’t see her as often. And Jessica – of course is so sweet.

Photobucket

I was so excited .. i forgot all about taking pictures of the food and my diet pill reviews .. hahahha!! to engross talking with everyone.. and watching the 3 gals play.

Photobucket

There is Mrs Zhu – Yen – and a friend/customer.. and Mrs Zhu looking very radiant. I salute this woman.. because she worked in the restaurant till the day .. she had her baby .. and all thru’ her labour.. she didn’t make a noise. Very tough lady!

Photobucket

Regular customer – Mike and his wife turned friends were also in the party of course. This couple is very sporting.. and very, very kind.

Photobucket

We had a feast..! got lobsters too..!!!! and roasted pork ribs.. and vegies with mushrooms.. noodles.. rice.. chicken, duck .. and other things too. It was pretty good.. but i already had dinner.. so i took a lil’ of everything. The dinner ended at 10pm.. but chloe was very happy .. running around with the other children.. and thankful for good friends, good food .. and good company.

Bowling

Photobucket

So we went bowling on Sunday .. but that’s only because we had a birthday party to attend at the bowling alley. I missed the bowling alley near the Miami beach hotels. where the bowling balls are of normal sizes. The bowling balls here are mini sizes. I had wanted to get Chloe her own pink bowling balls.. but they are like $200+ dollars.. so nah.. not gonna happen.. hahahah!! PB was sore from bowling .. because he hasn’t bowled in such a long time.. hahha!!! See that torn up jeans..?? yes..! torn.. and guess what he said.. when i asked him.. “you going out with your town up jeans..??” In which he replied.. “yes..! it’s sunday.. and i’m gonna wear what i wanna wear”. *slap forehead*.

Photobucket

Of course, chloe loves bowling too.. as you can see. Even though the rest of the kids were eating chips.. and running around.. she was bowling earnestly.

The Birthing Of A Child

Photobucket

I’ve had a busy week, from Chloe being sick.. and recovering.. and then getting sick again.. and afterwhich, I had to help with a friend’s delivery. So welcome.. Baby X – because his parents haven’t named him yet. Baby was delivered on the 17th Sept 2009 @ 1951hrs. I was all the way with his parents.. when he was being delivered. So there is gonna be another classroom furniture for him.. when he is older.. just like his sister.

Seeing his mother go into labour.. for more than 24hrs.. and then had to have a C- section.. after trying so hard.. reminded me of my own birth story.. but mine wasn’t as traumatic as his mother. His mother, Yen was truly a super – trooper .. and didn’t make one sound.. all thru’ those contractions. But baby was delivered healthy.. and he is such a handsome looking boy. Baby and mom was discharged today.. and i had to do some pharmacy run for them.. and finally they are home. Thank God..!! for a safe delivery.
