Musical Instrument Shopping

Yes, we finally bought a real piano for Chloe in Halifax because she had been taking lessons for more than a year now and attended her first recital this year before summer.   And since she is so good at it, we figured we should buy her a real piano.  Truthfully, I didn’t think that an acoustic piano would be so expensive, I was planning to spend like $3500 on it but an entry level acoustic cost about $6500 tax included.  But it is an investment and PB didn’t bat an eyelid paying cash for it.

Of course, he too wanted something from the  guitarcenter  since he was buying chloe such an expensive “toy” , he feels he deserved another one in his collection too.   Well, i didn’t stop him of course, after all he worked so hard for them and he is entitled to spend some money as long as we don’t use our credit card and use our line of credit.  Everything has to be paid in cash and that’s how I am teaching my kid.  If you cannot afford your toys, then don’t buy them.

Music Gear Shopping

I’ve been doing a lot of my shopping online and a friend recommended that I cheack out  musician’s friend the world’s largest online music gear company  for the guitar and amp that my nephew wanted for his birthday.  They do have a wide variety to choose from and most importantly, they do ship to Canada.  I love that the prices are reasonable as well and we found drums, amps, guitars and music software and more stuff.  It’s definitely an online playground for musicians out there.  And now that I know where to buy all my music gear, I’ll be sure to share it with my friends who needs music gear for themselves or loved ones.

Drummer Girl

For those of you who knows that we do carry some musical instruments at our store now, you will also noticed that Chloe loves the drum set so much that she wants to learn how to play the drum besides playing the piano.  After much persuasion, we’ve decided that she can take up playing the drum as well.  But first we have to buy drum cases for electronic drums at musician’s friend  , so that she can carry her kid’s drum set to and fro to her teacher’s house.  You see, she prefers to practice using her own drum set, which is perfectly understandable for her age, so the drum cases would come in handy not only for Chloe but for those who have kids and taking lessons or those musicians who wants to transport their drums to wherever they are playing their drums.  It’s a win-win situation for us, now we will have drum cases to offer our own customers as well.

Computer Problems

Sorry I haven’t been online for a lot this summer, been busy with the lil’ brat of course and also had some computer problems, so was  reformatting hard drive  and doing all sorts of virus scanning before we said, I give up and reformatted the computer.  But while we were at it, we decided to look into a new laptop for me and sell the old one but we still had to reformat the hard drive because I didn’t want someone else to see what I had in my old hard drive right?  So yes, so in between reformatting the hard drive and getting the new one set up and transferring all my old stuff to my new laptop, that’s the reason why I haven’t been updating a lot.  But now that everything is almost set up, I should be good to go.

Talent Show In Town

The annual talent show is coming to town again this October and we are to source for some USB microphones for the talent show and thus far we found some usb microphone at musicians friend that are of professional quality and affordable for the organizers. Of course, we do have the cheaper ones but they are mostly for personal use, these ones that we’ve found are of a better quality. So next week, we are going to present them to the organizers and then will order it for them if they are agreeable with it. We are happy to be a part of the talent show this year and even though we are not making any money in sourcing the microphones for the talent show, we are happy to give back to the town. It’s not all about money for us you know.

Growing Money

Of late I haven’t been saving a lot of money because I had been helping a friend for over a year now.  And I really don’t mind helping my friend but one have to think of the lil’ brat’s future too right?  so the spouse said to me the other day – so I’ve decided that I should do right by the kid again and grow some money for her.  So I hear you asking – how can one grow money?  you can by saving a little here and there and not eating out so much and buying things that you don’t need or going on vacation when you don’t need to. This is how I do it – by buying a little gold at a time – when I have some money to spare –  so how to buy gold  i hear you asking?  You can do what I do – buy them online and save them up and every ounce of gold that you buy or even gold coins is a bit of saving for your kids.

How else can you save money?  you can squirrel them away into a savings account – or you can buy shares but of course those are a lot riskier and I wouldn’t want to lose any money because I’m a sore loser.  So I prefer to buy gold or silver because for centuries my great – grandparents had been doing that.  Saving up is a very satisfying thing let me tell you and securing your children’s future is a must for all parents.  Don’t need to wait till they are older – do it right now – like we do since Chloe was born.

And being the curious me, I loved reading and finding out just about anything, plus I do like the smell of cigar and maybe, this column can recommend some good places to buy cigars and how to differentiate a good cigar from a mediocre one. Electronic Games & Kids

I’m glad that my kid is not into electronic games that much that she won’t do anything else.  Chloe loves the outdoors, drawing, sewing, reading, watching tv but every now and then she wants her electronic games too.  From Skylanders to Lego Batman and Lego StarWars, so the  rechargeable batteries aa  is a necessity in our home.

I don’t know about other parents but I prefer Chloe to be outdoors playing or doing something creative, I’m not too happy when she is indoors watching tv all the time or playing games on the tv with PB.  But when you have a store full of games for you to pick from and a gamer dad, I feel that I am not doing a bad job with Chloe.

So how much electronic game time is good for your kids?  I say depending on your kids, for me no more than 30 mins a day – but most times, Chloe doesn’t play her electronic games except to keep her dad company or to do something with daddy on weekends.

TV In The Kitchen

We all loved out TV shows especially the little brat and in order to make everyone sit down at the same time to have their supper, I’ve decided to go browse around for  standandmounts tv stands.  I also want to put in the kitchen/dining room – a LED TV, that way everyone would love to come have supper at my place.  At the moment, we just bring all our food to the basement and sit on the couch and watch tv, therefore, enough is enough, everyone needs to eat together at least one meal a day.

House Renovation

The father in law is doing some major renovation in his old house and it’s about time because part the 100 yrs old house is sinking and some  spring mounts  is needed to jack the house up so that they can fix the bottom part and put in some reinforcement.  Thus far, he had been doing the work with some help and when we visited last week, the computer room felt more solid than it did in a long time.  I think the father-in-law is doing it the cheaper way instead of hiring professional help but it is his house, so I’m not going to butt in like I do all the time.  Andy from the apple farm was joking that the father in law should have done the renovation when the mother -in -law was still alive because she really wanted a better foundation for the house.  Oh well, at least he is doing it right?
